Opus actively seeks investment opportunities involving niche products or services, growing markets, and the ability to generate tangible value. We creatively structure investments to achieve the goals of company shareholders and senior management.

We believe that there are significant and proven opportunities for growth and value creation within the entrepreneurial niche of the lower middle market. The following characteristics are representative of the types of opportunities we seek.

Company Attributes / Value Proposition

Opus invests in privately held stand-alone companies as well as divisions, lines of business and carve-outs of public and private entities based in the United States. We seek investment candidates that possess meaningful organic growth opportunities. While partnership with management is important, we will also will consider opportunities where management or operations require re-positioning as part of the initial transaction. In select cases, we will form de novo companies in partnership with seasoned executives.

In general, our targeted company characteristics include the following:

  • Identifiable and sustainable growth and value creation
  • Barriers to entry and competitive differentiation
  • Experienced and motivated management team
  • Recurring revenues of $5 million – $25 million
  • Long-term gross margin of 40% or more
  • Long-term operating income margin of 15% or more
  • Limited exposure to macroeconomic or regulatory factors

Industry Preferences

Opus is most interested in companies with niche or specialized offerings that have a material impact on or that provide identifiable benefits to people, the environment or society. Our sector interest is not constrained to traditional investment paradigms and in fact supports products and services that help to create or expand new market segments.  A representative listing of sectors includes the following:

  • Socially responsible services
  • Healthcare, laboratory, wellness and special needs services

  • Engineered products
  • Energy services (power management, energy efficiency, etc.)
  • Niche or specialized consumer/business/technology services
  • Not-for-profit outsourced services
  • Paradigm-shifting opportunities
